Video Series: Welcome to "Metrolink Minutes"!!

Hello Everyone....Welcome back from the set of holidays.  Yes, Christmas just passed and we are headed into a New Year.  I just wanted to take the opportunity to introduce a new video series called "Metrolink Minutes".   Yes, you read correctly "Metrolink Minutes".

What are "Metrolink Minutes"?

The mission behind creating "Metrolink Minutes" is to give you a brief (and I mean brief) bite of information in under 2 minutes and 30 seconds about the wonderful Metrolink Train System (an introduction can be found here).  Alright, maybe under 3 minutes at the longest.  The point is to educate riders about the Metrolink Train System in digestible parts rather than long tutorials.

For example, here is a short video on how to use a Metrolink ticket vending machine -- taken at Los Angeles Union Station -- to purchase a ticket.  The purchased trip was from Los Angeles Union Station to Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station:

See!  Nothing too long.  Just enough information to teach one small bite of information about how to use the Metrolink Train System.

Why?

The Metrolink organization is embarking on a program called SCORE.  Basically, within the next ten years, Metrolink will invest $10 Billion dollars into the rail system to increase (i.e. improve) service on the train system which spans 5 counties across the Southern California region.  The bottlenecks (i.e. delay points) are composed of 69 individual projects which aim to be completed within 10 years.

After completion of the 69 projects, train times should be down to 30 minutes (15 minutes in some cases) in either direction throughout the day -- WHAT?  Yes, I will write more about the program in the future.

To make the improvements successful, education will be a large part of the program.  Since we  are a nonprofit organization (yes, you can donate to help our cause if you so feel compelled to do so--  click here -- or at the bottom of the page), part of our mission is to educate the public on riding the Metrolink train system along with other rail systems (Metro light rail and Amtrak) in the Southern California region.

In these short videos, we will offer small educational tips.  Yes, the videos are really just us (board members) along with anyone willing to be interviewed by us.  Nothing special, just to get the message across to the public about Metrolink Trains.

Of course, if you would like to see a video about a certain aspect of any of the train systems here in Southern California, either drop a comment in the 'comments section' or write a comment on the YouTube Video link.  Or send us an e-mail at: bikecar101@gmail.com.  We are here to help improve the train service and educate people on the benefits of using 'active transportation' to get around Southern California.  Check out our YouTube channel which is filling up with videos quickly.

We just released a video about a short trip taken over Christmas from Northridge to Santa Ana via bicycle and Metrolink train shown below:

Also, we will be starting another series called "Transit Minutes" -- in which we discuss all aspects of transit (bus, Metro light rail, and Metrolink train systems).

For now, enjoy these short videos.  Have a wonderful remainder of 2018 and see you in 2019.  Happy New Year!
