Welcome to Bikecar101 - Blog Site!!!
Hello Readers and Visitors,
Welcome to Bikecar101 blog site. The purpose of this blog site will be to accompany the already existing website -- Bikecar101.com -- which is full of mission statements, motivation, links to events and future events too. We created the blog site to be able to talk candidly about bicycles on trains. As you may recall, our mission statement is the following:
Bikecar101 is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is devoted to engaging residents in Southern California in active transportation. Our mission is to advocate for and educate the public about bicycles on board trains in Southern California! This includes advocating for increased 'on-board' storage space on each train with an increasing bicycle culture in the region. Through education we believe that more people will decide to use a bicycle coupled with public transit train system (Metro rail or Metrolink train) to either commute or leisurely travel within the region. Overall, the result is a growing population of residents engaging in 'active transportation' to improve their health and that of the environment.
Simply put, we are here to educate the public on bringing bicycles on board trains. We are not just an educational non-profit organization though. Our main goal is to advocate for greater bicycle storage space on board trains (light rail and heavy rail) in the Southern California region. Trains should accommodate the growing population of residents who engage in active transportation - which includes bringing bicycles on board trains too - to solve the 'first and last mile' problem defined by Metro -- or the 'first and last several miles' problem.
Which is to say, the advocates (board members) of Bikecar101 have your commute and adventures in mind when advocating for greater presence on board trains. After all, who has not stepped on a train with a bicycle during rush hour on a train only to get 'annoyed looks' or 'insulting stares' as if the bicycle along with yourself do not belong on the train. This needs to change toward a greater accommodating presence with a smile or nod rather than a frown. Bicycles on board trains is a growing common place rather than a rare instance.
Southern California trains need to be able to accommodate the growing population of residents who engage in active transportation -- whether that is for commuting to and from work or adventuring on a leisurely ride - during the week or weekends.
With the above being said, check out our motivation page by clicking here with a mission statement and original motivation (powerpoint slide shows) for the creation of Bikecar101. We look forward to seeing you on the train with your bicycle. Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Mike Kaiser
